Mercerized cotton — the everyday workhorse

Our largest group of new hijabs is mercerized cotton. Mercerizing gives the cotton a smooth, slightly lustrous surface and a hand that holds a fold without being stiff, which is why these pieces keep their shape through a whole day and still fold small for a bag. The colour range runs through the marbles and florals — leopard print, ivory wildflower, coral pink heart and blush pink floral are all in this same fabric family.

Modal — the fluid printed drape

Our printed modal hijabs sit at the other end of the drape scale. Modal moves with almost no weight, so it falls close to the body and reads more like a soft printed scarf than a wrapped piece. The Ruby Arabesque, Persian Garden, Indigo Garden, Dune Arabesque and Caramel Paisley prints all come in this fabric at 180 × 70 cm.

Printed chiffon and satin shawls

For a lighter, more fluid option, the printed chiffon and satin shawls are the ones to look at — the watercolor rose pink, snakeskin print, leopard print and olive to brown ombre all share the same large 80 × 180 cm format, which is what makes them work as both a headscarf and a shoulder wrap.

How to pick a size and a fabric

Decide by how you wear it. A 180 × 70 cm shawl gives you the length to tuck and the width to cover; a 70 × 70 cm wrap is lighter and easier to style as an everyday scarf. For fabric, mercerized cotton holds a neat fold, modal drapes without volume, and printed chiffon moves the most.
